PIK3CA Mutation

What is a PIK3CA Mutation?

Researchers have learned a lot about cancer over the years. A key finding from this research shows that cancer can have a lot of different causes. A common cause of cancer are mutated genes (genes whose structures have changed) which affect the development of proteins your body needs to function correctly. Without the correct proteins, cells sometimes grow out of control, causing cancer and tumors.

The PIK3CA gene is one such possible cause of cancer. Researchers are studying a drug (RLY-2608) in the ReDiscover study that may be able to closely target an incorrect protein, created by the mutated gene, and prevent cells from growing.
